Welcome to Year 5!

Hi everyone,

We have had a fantastic start in Year 5 and the children have definitely impressed us in the first couple of weeks! This week we have been looking at the life cycle of a butterfly as part of our Science topic. We have looked at each stage carefully and all produced some amazing writing for our display in the classroom. Today we started to put together our main pieces of art work for the display. This will be ongoing through the week for all the children to participate in. We are going BIG!

Don't forget to check in after our visit to the beach on Thursday with the RNLI - I'm really looking forward to sharing our day already!

Tudor Knot Baking!

Good afternoon, Year 5 have been in the learning centre this morning baking delicious Tudor Knots! The children were split into groups and had to measure their ingredients accurately, mix the ingredients, knead the dough and shape their knots. All of the children had lots of fun and enjoyed eating their knots with runny honey and poppy seeds after. Another great day in Year 5. We hope you enjoy the pictures! Mrs Bailey and Year 5 :)

Viking Projects

Good afternoon, I hope you all had a wonderful half term and it is lovely to see everyone back in school raring to go! During half term I set Year 5 a task - to complete a Viking project. I was absolutely overwhelmed on Monday morning when I saw how much effort had gone into these pieces. Yesterday, as a class, we looked through everything together, including; cakes, biscuits, bread, clay models, swords, shields, drawings, stories, diary entries, fact files and much more. Terrible Tudors

Good morning everyone, Yesterday Year 5 visited Palace Green Library (part of Durham University) to take part in a Tudor workshop. During the morning we found out some very interesting facts about Tudor times including the different people that ruled, wars and the impact it had on the country. We also had the opportunity to hold both real and replica artefacts some of which included; jugs, plates, sundials and clogs. We drew them in detail and described what they were and what they may have been used for. Before lunch we created our own inventory using a quill and ink. We had to write down everything that we owed on a piece of parchment. After lunch we began our 'Tudor Trail' around Durham City. We explored the area around the university such as the castle and cathedral. We moved around the city exploring the original Tudor features along the way.
